~Understanding music from a historical perspective.~
Godowsky was born in Lithuania, in the Russian Empire.
(Lithuania was once a grand duchy alongside Poland, but after political divisions, most of it came under the Russian Empire. At that time, there was a famine, and emigration to America also took place.)
(Godowsky entered the Berlin University of Music in Germany, but Berlin was also in a recession at that time. Later, World War I broke out, and the Allied forces won.)
Godowsky was a musician who continued his musical activities in a very complex environment.

[Quoted from Wikipedia]
Godowsky was born in Žasliai (Polish: Żośle), near Vilnius, the capital of present-day Lithuania, in the Vilna Governorate of the Russian Empire. As a child, he received lessons in piano playing and music theory. At the age of 14, he entered the Berlin Hochschule für Musik and began studying under Ernst Rudorff, but he quit after three months. Otherwise, he was basically self-taught.

He began his career as a concert pianist [1] when he was only 10 years old. In 1886, after a tour of North America, he returned to Europe to study under Franz Liszt in Weimar, but he learned of Liszt's death shortly after and went to Paris. In Paris, he befriended Camille Saint-Saëns, a composer and pianist. His encounter with Saint-Saëns gave Godowsky the opportunity to meet the outstanding French musicians of the time.
In 1890, Godowsky began working as a teacher at the New York College of Music. While in New York, he married Frieda Sax and obtained U.S. citizenship. In 1894, he moved to the Broad Street Conservatory of Music in Philadelphia, and in 1895, he moved to the Chicago Conservatory of Music. At the Chicago Conservatory of Music, he became the head of the piano department. During his European tour in 1900, which was a great success, Godowsky visited Berlin again, where his time was divided between educational activities and performance activities.
